What an excellent term this has been for the club. There have been some extraordinary performances in competitions across all levels, and across a range of codes too. Lisa has done a sterling job of bringing some brand new road cyclists into the fold, and our team of coaches and volunteers grows ever stronger. Standing back from this as I do, it’s been very gratifying to be able to take note of the results of your dedication to regular training – and supporting each other.

Annual Club Meeting:

Monday 29 April: 5:00pm. Room 23, Mount Aspiring College.

Every year we hold a meeting of all students, families and interested parties to plan the up-coming year’s events (exciting!), to review how things have gone and to provide me with much-valued feedback about the direction of the club. Please mark this date in your diary and come along so that you can help set the direction for the next 12 months and beyond.

(Do also let me know if you would like something added to the agenda for that meeting)

Merryn, Alex and I met last week to discuss preparation for the Yunca Tour of Southland in October. We’re very eager to present this team stage race as a focus for the winter months. We’re currently devising local sites where we can run time trials and skills sessions that best match the six stages of the actual race. We’re thinking also of adding another club ride to the schedule for the winter to ensure everyone is properly prepared. Please do let me know if you’re interested in entering this event – but regardless of whether you’re entered, our training is always open to all.

Monday 8 April – No Swim

Due to the end of Daylight Savings, and the unavailability of lanes at the pool at our usual time, tonight’s swim will not go ahead.

I’m very keen to know what kind of swimming everyone would like to be doing through the winter months. Do you want to continue with the team training we started last winter – which was popular and, I think, fun for many? Would you like access to some coached techniques sessions run by Merryn? Alternatively, would you prefer to join the Wanaka Swim Club for some of their coached sessions instead?

I’m happy to offer whatever everyone wants – so do speak up, or email me, to let me know what you’d most like to do.

Thursday 11 April

Club Run – Meet Room 23 at 3:30 pm. Speed with Val and Recreational Run with Chris. All welcome.

Friday 12 April

Club Ride: Course to be decided – Meet Room 23 at 3:30 pm. Remember to bring lights and warm clothing – now that daylight savings has ended it’s going to get dark and cold fast in the evenings

Road Bike for Sale

A member of the local community has a road bike for sale for $50.00. If you might be interested in following up on this, let me know and I’ll pass on their details.

If anyone knows of someone who has a road bike gathering dust in their garage that they might see themselves loaning to the club for new riders, please do put them in touch with me. Already the club has three bikes, a wetsuit and numerous smaller items that have been donated and are being put to good use – but there’s always demand!

Our club is all about participation, and alongside the excellent commitment of the student athletes, we welcome family members and members of the community to join us in all of our training sessions. They’re designed to accommodate all levels and abilities and are a lot of fun. If you have it in mind that you’d like to join any of our regular sessions, simply let me know and we’ll make sure you have all the information you need.

Righto!
