An international pandemic and some unexpected turbulence in the life of the school lead to a longer-than-expected break in our regular training programme. My enormous gratitude goes to all of you who have been in contact over this time. It has been a humbling experience to be on the receiving end of your kindness and appreciation. I know for some of you training has continued apace, and it will be great to gather the details of your training and racing over the last few months (virtual and otherwise) to share with all.
SATURDAY 8 August – Laurie’s Saturday Series
10:45am Outside Room 23
Hello everybody
I thought I should probably send out a message to everybody explaining what the plan is for Saturday’s club ride.
Chris and I have discussed this and we think this should be a nice substitute for the Friday club rides over the colder parts of winter. We encourage riders of all abilities to come along as the peloton riding will be suitable for beginners with opportunities for the more experienced riders to go for it(or anyone else).
The general idea is that we ride all together as a group to one location where we come to a stop. From here each rider will ride a pre-discussed route at whatever speed they like as a time trial. These will be short reasonable efforts that are easy to navigate. At the finish location, we will all come to a stop and meet back up as a group. We will then proceed to the next location as a group. In total, we will ride a total of three segments.
For those that want an element of competition, there will be Strava segments for these sections where you can total your three times together to get an overall time so if you want to see how you compare you can use strava. (For those that don’t have a fancy watch or bike computer you can simply download the strava app onto your phone and get nearly identical post-ride functionality).
We will be starting and also finishing at school at the normal spot just in front of the English rooms and we will be meeting there at 10:45 am roughly and planning to start around 11:00. The ride will be approximately 35 km with three segments and plenty of chatting in between so we may take 2 hrs. This would place us as finishing around 1 o’clock I would think.
We will be using the preexisting Tri club infrastructure, thanks Chris for helping with this. We plan to have this as a series for the next few weeks and will continue based on interest. I encourage all riders to bring a water bottle and to check the weather before the ride and dress appropriately.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask either me or Chris we are happy to help. See you on Saturday:)

If inclement weather exceeds our safety thresholds for any of our training events, I will endeavour to notify everyone 2 hours before the start time – but this can occur closer to the time if the weather change is sudden!
This is great Laurie and Chris. Thanks so much for starting again!
