Welcome back to the Mount Aspiring College Tri Club for 2020. We're in the lead-in to the Triathlon nationals for some, others' sights are firmly set on the National Cycling Champs - and we also welcome many new members at this time of the year. Welcome one and all!

Go Segment Hunting

If you’re a GPS user, we have developed specific Strava Segments for our training locations which are all collected on our site. Check them out to see where you stand on the league tables!

Our Training Calendar

Our training and event calendar can be found at: http://trisport.mtaspiring.edutronic.net/training-calendar/ – and you can merge it with your own device if you like

Welcome back one and all. After a tremendous year last year, we look forward to this new one with great enthusiasm. We’ll certainly be hitting the ground running with a wide array of events and competitions on offer. Please be reminded that if you’re keen to participate in the up-coming Otago Secondary Schools’ and National Secondary Schools’ triathlon champs here in Wanaka, the closing date for registration is this Wednesday. You do this via the sports hub.

MONDAY 3 February – Open Water Swim

6:00 pm Sealed Carpark in Roy’s Bay

This week we’ll be re-acquainting ourselves with the water and running some relays to strengthen transition fluency in preparation for the up-coming races.

Wetsuits are compulsory for our open-water swim sessions. If you’re new to the club, please speak in advance to Chris about your level of experience in the open water.

THURSDAY 6 February – Club Run Training

We’re not running this week as today is Waitangi Day

FRIDAY 7 February – Club Ride

3:30 pm Outside Room 23

For our first ride of 2020 we’ll head out to Mt Barker and run some sets that will accommodate all levels or rider – including those who are joining the club for the first time. If we have Year 7 or 8 students joining the club for cycling this year, we’ll run our usual orientation and safety programme before they head out on the group rides.

Next Week: Preparation for Triathlon Competitions

Next Monday’s session, which is usually a swim-only session will be turned over to triathlon skills and techniques. We’ll work on T1 and T2 transitions, gear, mental and technical preparation and experienced athletes will be on hand to give support and advice to those who are newer to the domain.

Tri Wanaka Swim/Run Series

The final of the Tri Wanaka Swim/Run series is happening this Friday evening. Remember there’s half-price entry for members of our club. All you have to do is use the code: MAC50 when your register on their website at: https://eventplus.net/TWS19

If inclement weather exceeds our safety thresholds for any of our training events, I will endeavour to notify everyone 3 hours before the start time – but this can occur closer to the time if the weather change is sudden!

Happy New Year to you all!

Our club is all about participation, and alongside the excellent commitment of the student athletes, we welcome family members and members of the community to join us in all of our training sessions. They’re designed to accommodate all levels and abilities and are a lot of fun. If you have it in mind that you’d like to join any of our regular sessions, simply let me know and we’ll make sure you have all the information you need.

Righto!
