Club Run: Lakeside Speed Play – Meet Room 23 at 3:30pm

THIS FRIDAY:

Club Ride: Wanaka Hills + Brick Session for triathletes – Meet Room 23 at 3:30pm – Bring your running shoes.

RACE RESULTS: CENTRAL OTAGO WAKATIPU CYCLE CLUB RACE.

The Wakatipu club went out of their way to make it possible for all MAC riders to join their race last weekend.

There were some real stand-out performances, with Laurie coming in 5th in the lead A Grade Peloton (and a massive average speed of 36.4km/h in a howling nor’wester), Jack Findlay taking out first position in C grade, Carter winning D grade and Tom leading the Under 13 group across the finish line.

The Central Otago Wakatipu Cycle Club have already invited us along to their Criterium event at the Highlands Raceway. More information on this as it comes to hand.

NEXT MONDAY:

Club Open Water Swim – Purple Sculpture on Lakefront 6:00pm

OPEN WATER SWIMMING

In order to participate in our open water swim session, you will need to bring a wetsuit and swim cap, as well as have passed our open water test, as specified below.

OPEN WATER TEST: athletes must be able to remain buoyant unaided and swim more than 600m within a 20 minute timeframe. The following athletes have now graduated this test:

Ben, Tom, McKay, Hugo, Belinda, Sam, Merryn, Chris, Zach, Piper, Dylan, Oliver, Jack, Red

MERRYN’S ADVICE ON WETSUITS

Swimming wetsuits are typically a mix of 5-1mm thickness. Generally there’s a 5mm panel down most of the front of the body and paneling around the body varies to maximise warmth, flexibility and buoyancy.

Swimming wetsuits are constructed differently to other water sport wetsuits to give easy stripping (transition), huge flexibility across the shoulders, drag resistance, and a close fit to keep a swimmer as streamlined as possible.

Outside Sports and Racers Edge in town stock swimming wetsuits and a there’s a new brand on the market called Ruby Fresh – designed by Eddie Spearing, who is the race director of the Ruby Swim events (the athletes will know of his son Wilfred – just finished year 13 this year at MAC). They are very well priced and excellent suits! I’d recommend a look at them if you’re looking at buying new.

They’re designed to accommodate all levels and abilities and are a lot of fun. If you have it in mind that you’d like to join any of our regular sessions, simply let Sam or me know and we’ll make sure you have all the information you need.

Righto!
